“ Know Thyself ”
It was written on the gate of the school of Pythagoras and also above the entrance to the Oracle of Delphi. Socrates taught it to his disciples, as did Krishna, Buddha, Lao Zi, Jesus and Rama. On the path to more conscious living, “Know Yourself” is a fundamental lesson

Self Observation

If you are hungry for more Self Knowledge, for ruthless honesty with yourself, for more unveiled truth, then practicing Self Observation is essential. But how do you do that? What do you observe? What are the pitfalls? What does it all trigger and what do you do with it? What is the promise of Self Observation?
During this series, we want to bring rich food to seekers along the way. You don't have to have any prior knowledge. Nor do you have to believe or assume anything. We especially invite you to explore some things in yourself and discover what is true for you.

For whom?

Anyone can join, you don't need any prior knowledge just a large dose of curiosity, courage and a firm desire for more self-knowledge.
Know that spaces are limited to a maximum of 23 participants.
Note for fellow students of Russ Hudson
We have found that Self Observation is the connective tissue to much of the Enneagram of Personality’s teachings, particularly those of Russ Hudson. Russ, having studied with Gurdjieffian teachers, frequently makes references to “The Work”. For deeper integration of this work, its invaluable to know the laws of Self Observation. For example, we often hear him say, “Get out of the story and into the energy.” By learning Self Observation, you can learn exactly what that means, how to do it, and what sage advice it really is.

Red Hawk

Self Observation requires will and intention. We therefore want to inspire you and provide proven practical guidelines. During the sessions regular reference will be made to the book Self Observation by Red Hawk, who writes with the unmistakable voice of unforced authority on this subject, available only through long experience and deep and persistent cultivation. Throughout the sessions, key points will be underlined with pieces of his poetry.

About Walker Bass & Eva Bourgeois

Eva Bourgeois - Self Observation

Walker's bio'

I have leaned into inner understanding since I was a child. From the time I have been able to speak I have been fascinated by dreams, and as an adult have worked with a Jungian analyst to help me unlock the metaphors that show the path to inner development and transformation. I have long sought to know and master myself despite the many setbacks from pain and suffering caused by unconscious material rising in me. My aim is to know myself, including the unconscious material that can so gracelessly cause a fall. I care about the present moment, being in it, and inclining myself toward it, so I can awaken into the moment as many moments of the day as possible. I care about relationship, safety, non-harming, making amends, and am passionately committed to my own transformation. I make mistakes. I am human. I seek dialogue and forgiveness for any I might make with you. I am not enlightened and do not wish to be thought of as such. I am someone who can share from my own experience what work has helped me along the way be as present as possible. My aim here is to share with you the parts of Self Observation I have understood, and helped unlock myself with, so that you might have that opportunity too, as you work with the material Red Hawk gifted to all of us. I hold teaching certificates in Mindfulness and the Enneagram that only prove my inner hunger to know myself. Beyond my inner work, I facilitate various Enneagram groups, dialogue with others about their dreams (and what they mean), and caregive for my mother. Caregiving is sacred work, and I have much esteem and compassion for those who do that kind of heavy lifting.

Eva’s Bio

I believe that conflicts and paradoxes can be precious gifts—gateways to maturing into something new. As a family mediator, Enneagram practitioner and coach, I work in the tender spaces where connection can fracture or deepen, seeing each moment as an invitation to presence and transformation. The Enneagram has been a steady companion on my path of self-discovery and The Diamond Approach invaluable along the way. The laws and principles of Self-Observation have guided my shift from doing to being—continuously teaching me to anchor attention in the body, stand my ground when observing, and open to the voluntary suffering inseparable from true self-observation. Not to change anything, but to see without judgment. I know this path is not for the faint-hearted. It requires patience, will, intention and courage. This is a path of falling and rising, of failing and falling upward. I am grateful for this age, where I need not cross deserts or oceans to find wisdom. Exceptional teachers have been at my fingertips, and I wish to carry their gifts into my and our work.
I have a mediation practice in Belgium, and for many years I also have been facilitating groups of fellow heroes and sheroes on their journeys toward a more relaxed and Love-oriented life. I am a mother of three and a life partner of thirty-seven years. I have a special place in my heart and agenda for mothers of children with complex needs, and for mothers who have lost a child.
I aim to be a Love activist and co-creator of safe spaces where the truth can be spoken and held.

What particiants say
about this course

Eva and Walker's course in self-observation was a powerful aid to the process of inner work. They provided specific tools that give substance to my own self-understanding. Some of those tools hang next to my desk for ready reference. One of the most impactful parts of the course beyond the content was the modeling of mutual respect by the two leaders. This began on the first day, when they introduced each other rather than introducing themselves, and continued throughout the course. I believe this modeling would benefit anyone who might contemplate team teaching. The modeling extends also to the course content--it is clear from the teaching that Walker and Eva aren't just repeating words, but are sharing from their own experience.
Bruce Candlish, Certified Enneagram Instructor
I had the privilege of studying Self-Observation by Red Hawk in a course led by Walker Bass and Eva Bourgeois, the experience was deeply meaningful. In this course, both Walker and Eva offered not only skillful teaching but also genuine personal context, which made the material come alive. Their openness, clarity, and grounded guidance created a learning environment that was so genuine, stimulating, and heartfelt.
I have known Walker through Enneagram and Object Relations programs we have participated in together, and I have consistently experienced his rare ability to truly hold space when we landed in small group settings together. His presence is steady and attentive in a way that invites honesty and depth in a "zero judgement" zone. Walker was the one who first introduced me to Red Hawk’s work, which felt like a missing piece in my own inner development. Practicing 3-centered presence and self-observation unlocked an awareness and a liberation at the same time. When this course became available, I signed up immediately.
Walker and Eva complemented each other beautifully as teachers. Their shared facilitation created a safe, thoughtful container for self-observation, reflection, and inquiry. I came away with practical insights as well as a deeper appreciation for the subtlety and power of this work.
I am grateful for this course and look forward to continued study, exploration, and learning with Walker and Eva in the future.

I would like to recommend Walker and Eva’s Self Observation class. Through lectures, exercises, discussion and sharing this class can help you become more aware of yourself and see yourself and your many I’s. Walker and Eva’s teaching style flow together and provide an atmosphere of positive, non-judgmental discussion and helpful feedback and responses. Through their sharing you can be encouraged as you see they are walking through this journey with the class. Personally, this class gave me new insight to helping me move through reactivity, to be able to sense the many I’s and frequent thought patterns.

This was my first class with Eva and Walker as well as my first teachings on Self Observation. I found the information to be very understandable. Eva and Walker shared several personal examples of how they apply these principles, even being vulnerable about times when they struggle just like everyone. That vulnerability as well as the authentic sharing from other members of the class helped to make it a safe environment to share, learn and grow. I felt affirmed and accepted even though I was just beginning this work.

I feel so fortunate to have been a part of the first offering of the Self-Observation program with Eva and Walker. Although I was already familiar with self-observation, this program provided a deepening of my knowledge and skills and really helped me be more present to my thoughts, feelings and sensations. It helped me see patterns and stories that create more suffering and ways to connect more with my deeper self and inner guidance. I found Eva and Walker’s teaching styles to be very complementary and their personal examples to be very helpful in illuminating the material. I highly recommend this program.
